It's becoming more and more important, especially in the embedded world, because a lot of hardware vendors are based in China.

As much as I dislike the Chinese state, I must say that I also want to learn Mandarin for this reason. I learned English for cultural reasons that are also related to the imperialism of the USA, so why not Mandarin?

Can anyone advise me on an efficient way to do this?

Thankfully it's not that hard.

Just requires that willpower to spend some time memorizing a whole bunch of words.
